How do I know if I have hail damage?
Hail actually bruises your roof and the extent of the bruising will determine the extent of the damage. Light bruising does not always constitute enough hail damage for a total roof replacement.

When do I call my insurance company to look at my roof?
Call the insurance company after a reputable roofer inspects and informs you that you have damages. If there is a discrepancy in the number of squares or how many layers your roofing company should be able to work with the insurance. It is in your best interest to let your reputable roofer see all the paperwork including prices paid insure all the numbers were done correctly. With this hail storm at least 50% of the insurance adjustments have been done incorrectly.

Why does my roofing company want to adjust the price of my roof since my last estimate?
The prices of shingles, depending on the manufacturer, have increased. The increase on shingles has been as follows: 10%-15% in February, 7%-15% in April, 7%-10% in May, 12% -20% in June, and 5%-12% in July. All the other costs that are associated with roofing i.e. felt: 60% YTD and nails: 200% YTD; other materials have increased as well. Fuel charges have also increased from $50-$200 per load during this time frame. Your insurance company will cover the increase, provided you do not have a wood-shake roof and are replacing it with a composition roof.

Why do I only have two years to do my roof?
This time allotment gives all reputable companies time to do all the roofs for the clients they have. If your roof is not leaking, you should not be in hurry to get your roof done. Even if you do find a leak, the person that you have a contract with should be more than happy to fix your roof temporarily to keep it from causing immediate damage.

Why do I sometimes have to wait a week after my scheduled roof date?
The roofing occupation is weather directed. You cannot (should not) roof in the rain. Depending on the roof, if it is to be tore-off or not, would also determine whether you can start a job on a day that calls for a chance of rain. This fact, many times upsets the flow of scheduling.

I just want to just get the bid processing over with, I don’t like to wait. What should I do?
We don’t recommend buying a vacuum cleaner from someone that walks up to your door selling vacuum cleaners just because they can save you money. We recommend you shopping around for companies that can stand behind their services and are local. In roofing, we feel even stronger towards this mind-set. If a company is knocking on your door, there may be a reason; perhaps they need the business. The recent hail storm should have all reputable roofing businesses extremely busy. We desire you to shop around locally, so your money has a greater chance of changing hands in the Tulsa economy.

Will Class 4 shingles Impact Resistant shingles keep me from having to roof my house again, if we have another hail storm?
The benefit of the heavier shingle is that it can withstand small hail and usually offers up to a 20% discount on your home-owners premium. It still gets bruising if the hail is big enough and will need to be re-roofed if the hail-storm is severe enough to cause hail damage. In our opinion the best impact resistant shingles are Atlas-Stormaster and Malarky-Legacy.
